Dr. Rajan Mahtani Supports Zambian President’s Recent Decision

Present Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema recently made a bold announcement on the eve of ‘Africa Day.’ On this prestigious event, the Zambian President announced that he is planning to abolish the death penalty completely. This announcement received widespread support from all over Zambia and Africa, including noted businessman and philanthropist Dr. Rajan Mahtani. With more than four decades of successful business experience, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is among the top businessman and philanthropist in Zambia. One of his top philanthropy ventures has been the Prison Fellowship Zambia which was established more than three decades ago. Prison Fellowship Zambia (PFZ) is a Christian Outreach Program that works towards bringing the teachings and learnings from Jesus Christ to the inmates, ex-inmates as well as their families in Zambia. Also, the outreach program works towards effective and fair criminal justice procedures in Zambia along with enduring that the prisoners are not devoid of human dignity and fundamental human rights.
Dr. Rajan Mahtani stated that there has been a growing consensus across the globe regarding the abolishment of capital punishment. Even in Zambia, the voice is not new as many institutions and organizations have been working towards abolishing this cruel and inhumane practice. Even then, there was a need for involvement from the top government and this has now become a reality with the latest announcement made by the Zambian President. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani also stated that killing of the convicts does not necessarily solve the problem of corruption and unethical practices in the nation. As such, Dr. Rajan Mahtani and his company Prison Fellowship have extended their full support towards abolishment of this practice. Dr. Rajan Mahtani also stated that there is a long road from announcing the intent to making it happen in a legal manner, which will require significant legal reforms. Dr. Mahtani’s firm will support the President in all manner possible.
