Full Support To Zambian President Regarding His Recent Announcement

On the special occasion of Africa Day, Zambian President made a major announcement regarding a significant law in Zambia. He announced his quest towards abolishing the death penalty law. Even though the announcement from the President attracted mixed responses from critics and general, there were only a few opposing people and majority supported this announcement. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, successful businessman and philanthropist from Zambia, extended his support to this announcement. Dr. Rajan Mahtani stated that his company, Prison Fellowship Zambia, will provide all forms of legal and regulatory support to ensure that this announcement becomes a reality soon.

Prison Fellowship is a top Christian Outreach Program (COP) focussing on providing teachings of Jesus Christ to the prisoners, ex-prisoners and their families in Zambia. The program also focussed on providing legal and transparent criminal justice as well as opportunities for fundamental human rights and basic human dignity for the prisoners in Zambia. As such, it can be said that the latest announcement made by the Zambian President aligns with the objectives and goals of the Prison Fellowship Zambia (PFZ).

Dr. Rajan Mahtani, while supporting the decision from the Zambian President, stated that the consensus regarding abolishing death penalty has grown significantly across the globe and can be seen across Zambia too. Also, death penalty does not provide any solution to the Zambian Government as death penalty in itself is a big punishment for the prisoners facing it. There are more than 380 prisoners across Zambia and they face a difficult life, not knowing which day is their last day on earth. As a result of the increasing consensus towards death penalty abolishment across the globe, majority of the past Presidents in Zambia refused to give capital punishment. The last execution order was signed in 1997. As such, the announcement made by the Zambian President is a step in the right direction and Dr. Mahtani also commended the President’s decision by calling it compassionate and right.
