Economic and social activities are gradually returning to normal as the pandemic progressively recedes with God’s grace and the hard effort of healthcare professionals. There have been some improvements during the past year, even though it will be a while before the economy and social life reach their pre-pandemic levels. The Forbes-FIN philanthropy and leadership roundtable conference and Forbes ‘Best of Africa’ award event are two of them. The conference and awards ceremony was conducted in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as usual, this year. The meeting from the previous year, however, was conducted online, with members taking part from their separate places.

Dr. Rajan Mahtani Announces Support For Abolishment Of Death Penalty.

Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is a noted businessman, philanthropist and charity worker from Zambia. Recently, Dr. Rajan Mahtani made a statement in which he extended his full support towards the decision made by the Zambian President. On the event of Africa Day, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema announced that he is planning to completely abolish the death penalty law. Dr. Mahtani supported this statement by highlighting that the concept of death penalty is archaic. It is inhumane, unethical and illegal and does not provide any solution for the Zambian government.

According to Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, death penalty is wrong not only from a political and social point of view but also from a religious viewpoint. Dr. Rajan Mahtani highlighted that there are almost 400 prisoners across Zambian prisons, both male and female, awaiting the death penalty. These are the prisoners who wake up every day, not knowing if it is their final day on this planet. As such, they are already living a life of despair and punishment, and giving them death penalty will not make any sense. At the same time, there is a growing awareness across the globe regarding the abolishment of death penalty and this awareness can be observed across Zambia too. Past presidents of Zambia have been tactically avoiding death penalty and the last time death penalty was given was in the year 1997. At the same time, past visits from leading personalities have revealed the degrading conditions of the Zambian prisons, especially the Maximum prisons wherein prisoners are devoid of even basic human dignity and fundamental human rights. This has prompted the Zambian Government to collaborate with institutions such as Zambian Correction facilities and Parole Board Zambia (PBZ) for strategic decongestion of prisoners wherein prisoners are released to society after their complete transformation and becoming ideal citizens. As such, the concept of death penalty does not create any significant difference to Zambian law and must be abolished.

Since this announcement, several positive responses have come across his way. Dr. Rajan Mahtani also said that this announcement from the Zambian President was a step in the right direction as death penalty is an archaic law which is degrading, inhumane and cruel. It also does not make any sense for the present Zambian government.

According to Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, death penalty is wrong not only from political and social point of view, but also from religious viewpoint. Dr. Rajan Mahtani highlighted that there are almost 400 prisoners across Zambian prisons, both male and female, awaiting death penalty. These are the prisoners who wake up every day, not knowing if it is their final day on this planet. As such, they are already living a life of despair and punishment and giving them death penalty will not make any sense. At the same time, there is a growing awareness across the globe regarding abolishment of death penalty and this awareness can be observed across Zambia too. Past presidents of Zambia have been tactically avoiding death penalty and the last time death penalty was given was in the year 1997. Furthermore, the condition of the Zambian maximum prisons is extremely pathetic with prisoners even devoid of fundamental human rights and basic human dignity. Past visits from high-ranking officials including ex-vice president also revealed that the condition of the Zambian prisoners is similar to hell on earth. This forced the Zambian Government to start the initiative of strategic decongestion of prisoners. It is a shame that the Government of Zambia as well as past President never engaged in any significant initiative to abolish this archaic, degrading and inhumane law despite growing consensus across the globe as well as in Africa. Overall, the decision from the Zambian President is certainly a step in the right direction.

Full Support To Zambian President Regarding His Recent Announcement

On the special occasion of Africa Day, Zambian President made a major announcement regarding a significant law in Zambia. He announced his quest towards abolishing the death penalty law. Even though the announcement from the President attracted mixed responses from critics and general, there were only a few opposing people and majority supported this announcement. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, successful businessman and philanthropist from Zambia, extended his support to this announcement. Dr. Rajan Mahtani stated that his company, Prison Fellowship Zambia, will provide all forms of legal and regulatory support to ensure that this announcement becomes a reality soon.

Prison Fellowship is a top Christian Outreach Program (COP) focussing on providing teachings of Jesus Christ to the prisoners, ex-prisoners and their families in Zambia. The program also focussed on providing legal and transparent criminal justice as well as opportunities for fundamental human rights and basic human dignity for the prisoners in Zambia. As such, it can be said that the latest announcement made by the Zambian President aligns with the objectives and goals of the Prison Fellowship Zambia (PFZ).

Dr. Rajan Mahtani, while supporting the decision from the Zambian President, stated that the consensus regarding abolishing death penalty has grown significantly across the globe and can be seen across Zambia too. Also, death penalty does not provide any solution to the Zambian Government as death penalty in itself is a big punishment for the prisoners facing it. There are more than 380 prisoners across Zambia and they face a difficult life, not knowing which day is their last day on earth. As a result of the increasing consensus towards death penalty abolishment across the globe, majority of the past Presidents in Zambia refused to give capital punishment. The last execution order was signed in 1997. As such, the announcement made by the Zambian President is a step in the right direction and Dr. Mahtani also commended the President’s decision by calling it compassionate and right.

President Hakainde Hichilema Announces Death Penalty Abolishment.

On the special occasion of Africa Day, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema announced that he is planning to completely abolish the death penalty law. After this announcement, widespread support was received regarding the announcement and the President’s decision was hailed by all. One of the biggest supporters of the decision by the Zambian President was Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, noted businessman, philanthropist and charity worker from Zambia. Dr. Rajan Mahtani, while supporting this decision and extending his support via his company Prison Fellowship, stated those under the death penalty were already facing significant punishment on a daily basis as they are not aware of their execution date. Currently, Zambia has more than 380 prisoners awaiting death penalty and around 25-30 of them are women. These are the inmates who are living in constant fear. At the same time, Dr. Mahtani also said that he had previous opportunities of meeting with some inmates who have completely dedicated towards the service of God, transforming themselves on the way.

Furthermore, past Zambian Presidents have constantly refused to sign death penalty or execution orders with the last order being executed in the year 1997 by President Chiluba. This is due to the controversy surrounding death penalty as well as the growing consensus across the globe regarding abolishing death penalty completely. At the same time, the Zambian Government has started the strategic decongestion of prisoners as a result of the dangerous and degrading condition of the Zambian prisons. When former VP and acting President Guy Scott visited the Maximum Prison at Mukobeko, he said that the condition was like hell on planet earth. This forced the Zambian Government to start the initiative of strategic decongestion of prisoners. As such, the concept of death penalty holds no significance. It is a shame that the Government of Zambia as well as past President never engaged in any significant initiative to abolish this archaic, degrading and inhumane law despite growing consensus across the globe as well as in Africa. Overall, the decision from the Zambian President is certainly a step in the right direction.

Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani Supports Decision From The Zambian President

Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is the founder and owner of Prison Fellowship Zambia which is a noted Christian Outreach Program established with the objective of bringing the teachings of Jesus Christ to the prisoners, ex-prisoners and their families in Zambia. In a similar manner, Prison Fellowship works towards ensuring fundamental human rights and basic human dignity for the prisoners as well as provide them with transparent criminal justice.

According to interview excerpt of Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani published at the Mast Newspaper, more than 380 inmates across Zambia are at present under death penalty. These are the people who are continuously looking behind their shoulder, not knowing which day will be their last. Dr. Rajan Mahtani said that this practice is extremely cruel and also there are inmates who have transformed themselves and are fully dedicated to the service of the god. If there is an opportunity for these inmates to transform their lives, live with repentance and dedication towards the god, then this opportunity is taken away by the inhuman practice of death penalty. Dr. Rajan Mahtani further stated that the last death penalty was given in the year 1997 by President Chiluba. Also, the Zambian Government along with Correctional Services via the Zambian Parole Board have started decongestion of the prisons across the nation with release of prisoners after due diligence.

In these conditions, giving death penalty does not provide any value and does not offer any solution for the Zambian government. Instead, the Government of Zambia should rally behind the announcement from the Zambian President and should ensure that it becomes a reality soon.

Based on these arguments, Dr. Rajan Mahtani stated that the decision from the Zambian President to abolish death penalty is a step in the right direction.
