The Legal Battle Between Finsbury Investments And Ital Terrazzo Finally Over, Finsbury Winner

A significant battle for Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani has come to an end. This battle was for Portland Cement Zambia, a noted cement-manufacturing factory for which two major parties in Zambia fought for more than a decade. The first party was the Ventriglias, Italian family residing in Zambia and noted for their notorious business activities. The second representative of the case was Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, a respected businessman in Zambia with numerous successful business ventures under his name. The case of Portland Cement started when Dr. Rajan Mahtani claimed that his factory was unethically taken over from him. After this, Lusaka High Court was approached for resolving the case. Numerous evidences and testimonials were shared by Dr. Rajan Mahtani with the hope that the case will be quick considering Dr. Rajan Mahtani had all the relevant documents which proved his legal ownership over the factory. Despite this, the court’s own challenges and setbacks resulted in the case dragging for more than a decade. The final decision from Lusaka High Court came during May, 2018 and it was less than expected. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani lost that case.

After this, another appeal was registered at the Court of Appeal, a higher-level court. The same proceedings took place and the same evidences were submitted before the court. However, the results from this court were different and quick took. The final decision from the Court of Appeal came on 31st January 2019. According to this decision, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is the actual owner of the Portland Cement Zambia factory as his company Finsbury Investments owns 58 percent shares at the factory. On the other hand, Ventriglias were the minority shareholders of the factory as their company Ital Terrazzo Limited held only 42 percent shares at the factory. Based on this just decision, it is now clearly established that it is Dr. Rajan Mahtani who is the legal owner of the factory.
