Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is a noted business individual in Zambia with several successful ventures. He is credited for transforming the legal framework of the Zambian law and education with merger of two distinct bars- the Solicitor’s Bar and the Registrar’s bar. In a similar manner, the Steven Malama award has been helpful in motivating students of the Zambian Institute of Advance Legal Education to study harder, smarter and dedicate themselves for the prestigious award. This award, which is being presented to the top graduating student from the ZIALE institute, is also credited for enhancing the awareness of a great lawman and visionary leader among upcoming law graduates and legal enthusiasts. The top performing student must also qualify for bar in his or her first attempt. For the year 2018-19, Emmanuel Bwalya Kaluba was honoured with this award and wrote an article with a thankful note to Dr. Rajan Mahtani for his contributions towards the institute and its students. The award carries a plaque, certificate and cash prize worth K15,000 which is significant in supporting the winning candidates of their dreams and career growth.
