Dr. Rajan Mahtani Innocent In The 2012 Case At The Tribunal, Claims Justice Mumba Malila

Few weeks ago, a prominent judge from the Supreme Court Zambia made shocking revelations about the large scale wrongdoings across the Zambian political and law system. This revelation was made with the help of a testimony before the Zambia court. In this testimony, Judge Mumba Malila highlighted the significant corruption and unethical activities going on within the Zambian government system. Among many of the statements made, one which stood out was associated with Dr. Rajan Mahtani’s case of 2012. Dr. Rajan Mahtani is a noted industrialist, businessman and philanthropist with more than thirty years of successful business experience in Zambia and outside. He is also a noted philanthropist with various charitable and social causes under his name.

In his testimony, Justice Mumba Malila stated that the 2012 case against Dr. Rajan Mahtani was against the interests of the public policies as it was motivated by several political undertones. He also stated that the case was motivated by some unethical, corrupt yet powerful people who already had controlled the decision making with their illegal practices. Despite several requests from Mumba Malila who was the Attorney General during that time, no such action was taken. The Justice also requested to make the case null and void but his requests were avoided during that time.

This new revelation from the Justice bring both opportunities and challenges for the Zambian economy. The opportunity lies in the form of making things right and ensuring that honest businessmen like Dr. Rajan Mahtani do not suffer at the hands of corrupt businessmen and politicians. On the other hand, the biggest challenge for the government and law makers is to ensure their own organisation is corruption free with transparent practices and ethical values. Unless the government is able to come above its own corruption and unethical practices, it is difficult for the nation to go on a path of growth and prosperity any time soon.
