Dr. Rajan Mahtani

Justice Mumba Malila belongs to Supreme Court of Zambia which is the highest level court of any nation. Being in his position, it is important for him to choose his words carefully and ensure that they are aligned with the nation’s best interests. As such, his testimony was a surprise revelation to many. In his testimony related to Dr. Rajan Mahtani was regarding the case of 2012. In his testimony, he claimed that the decision made by the Tribunal on this case was biased and was against the interests of the public policies. He also claimed that the decision making was influenced by external parties including some businessmen and politicians who had vested interest in the decision making. Justice Mumba Malila was the Attorney General during that time and he made several attempts to make the case null and void as the case was misdirected and was not aligned with the national laws and policies. However, no such requests were accepted. This clearly showcases the extent to which corruption and unethical practices have penetrated the Zambian government as well as its legal system.

If the support system of a nation’s economy such as legal system, government offices and courts are corrupted, then there is no hope for honest and ethical businessmen in such scenario. Unless the government makes some serious and stringent policies and framework for controlling and eradicating corruption, honest businessmen like Dr. Rajan Mahtani will continue to suffer.
