Dr. Rajan Mahtani’s Hidden Philanthropic Contribution Goes Viral, News Shared By Media House

Rajan Mahtani

Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is a distinguished businessman and philanthropic professional in Zambia. In his successful business career spanning more than three decades, Dr. Rajan Mahtani has been engaged in numerous philanthropic and charitable contributions. Most of these contributions have been hidden from the public media as Dr. Rajan Mahtani rarely promotes his charitable activities as well as societal and environmental contributions.

The Steven Malama award is one of the biggest contributions from Dr. Rajan Mahtani in the field of education. This award was instituted in the year 2012 and since 2013, it is given every year. The receiver of this award must be the top graduating law student of that year from the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education and should clear the bar in his or her first attempt. The reason behind instituting this award was two folds. The first reason was honouring the significant contributions of late Steven Malama who was a close friend of Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani and a known facilitator towards improving the legal framework of Zambia. The second reason behind instituting the award was Dr. Rajan Mahtani’s awareness of the current state of education in Zambia. While it is not possible for a private businessman like Dr. Mahtani to change the existing policies and regulations established by the Government, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani did his part by instituting an award. This award system not only recognises the hard work and dedication of the law students, it also ensures that the legal education of Zambia becomes competitive, improving the skill sets and experts of the outgoing graduates who will be the future of the nation and its economy.

The Steven Malama award was instituted in collaboration with Finance Bank Zambia and the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education which gives the award on an yearly basis. The award carries a plaque, a certificate and award money worth K15,000 which has been a significant financial help to the winning students.
